Government RHI Scheme - a new stability?

October 2, 2017

The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is the Government subsidy scheme designed to encourage homeowners to switch to renewable heating systems. Recent amendments have set an upper limit to the amount that can be claimed for each type of technology, which we hope should lead to a more sustainable scheme in the longer term.

At Orangehouse we specialise in ground and air source heat pump installations, which have now been capped at around £32,500 and £10,900 respectively. Whilst this will have an impact on larger systems, for the most part there is still a generous rebate available. A clever aspect to the way the figures are calculated, is such that the more efficient heat pumps are rewarded with higher RHI paybacks (obviously up to the cap!) This is one of the reasons that we like to work with Nibe, as their heat pumps seem to achieve better efficiencies than many others. This not only reduces running costs, but also helps to optimise RHI payments for a system.

The deadline for applications to avoid this cap has now passed, but we enjoyed a sprint finish wth a couple of our installations.............
